I am implementing project management for a company that is new to Office 365 Online (migrating from Google). This may turn into 2 projects, and that's okay, I need (1) help designing PM tracking & dashboards into SharePoint and/or Teams, and (2) after we've designed this, I will likely want to hire someone to build it.
For the design piece - I am torn on using SP or Teams, or both... I have seen demos on using both Teams and SharePoint to manage projects, but I need some guidance from someone on the best tool or how to use the 2 tools together. Right now I have all of the company's project plans in OneNote and am running granular task plans in Excel. The company is just starting the process to migrate all team members over to MS 365 online. The project queue currently has about 95 projects, mostly software development projects with less than 10 projects active at a time.
The project teams consist of less than 20 stakeholders. I found a great SP site template from BrightWorks, designed for Project Management that I really like. I was originally planning to just use the brightworks template and run all PM tracking thru SharePoint, but recently saw a demo on Teams that made me think twice... and left me wondering if I should leverage Teams somehow instead of only SharePoint, or perhaps in addition to.
The company is not yet using Teams (at all), so we're in a good place there where we can develop it however we want and instruct the organization accordingly. There's nothing for them to un-learn or re-learn since they're not using Teams at all yet. I am the 365 admin for the organization. The SharePoint hub I built the company is very small, limited to only 5 sites right now, including only a handful of libraries and lists. We have only used the modern sites and want to avoid classic sites.
For the PM efforts, I had originally envisioned each project having it's own site so each project could have it's own dashboard, corresponding libraries, etc. It would be great to also have some cross-project reporting rolling up to a site that pulls data from all of the other individual PM sites. but again... now that I know Teams has so many cool features I'm wondering how much I should build into teams instead of everything in SharePoint. So, the first task is just to design all of this. After we settle on a design plan to track and manage the project queue, I might want help building it all out, if the price is right. The deadline below is flexible. Budget is also negotiable, based on what you can/can't do for us and if you could help with both design and development... or just the design.
